3 Questions for Choosing Your Food.

Picture this. You are standing in front of your wide-open pantry, hungry for a snack. You ask yourself “Okay, self, it’s time to choose a snack. But, I want to stay in line with my nutrition goals. What should I pick?”.

When I worked from home, this is a situation that I found myself in… a lot.

Here is a good system that you can use the next time you are choosing what to eat (at home, in a restaurant, the grocery store, anywhere!)

It’s called:

The Good, Better, Best System.

Good- These are readily available foods! (Example- the potato chips that stare at you every night at 11:23 pm). It may not be the most “healthy food” but it’ll do! But, there are other foods around, so let’s keep looking.

Better- You decide to look around the pantry and find some granola that has some fruit, chocolate chunks, and oats! This is a better option than the potato chips, for sure. Are there some other foods around? Next, you spin around and find…

Best- …the Red Delicious apples you picked up from the store two days ago! This is a good, whole food, scratches the sweet tooth itch, and has tons of vitamins. You grab an apple and the natural peanut butter from the cabinet, pull up the new CrossFit Games Open announcement, and enjoy some YOU time.

See how that works? All it takes is asking a short series of questions about what the best options may be for you. Just by asking a few questions you exchanged the chips for something more filling and healthy.

Is oat milk worth the upcharge (usually $1+ extra if we’re talking coffee!) is a tasty option for drinks and substitutions! However, it is a more calorically dense option. But, if you want to cut some calories, a good ole Americano may be the way to go.
